Matlock Rugby Club's 6th Mini Festival

 

A fantastic day for rugby in the Dales.  Over 1200 young players participated in Matlock Rugby Club’s 6^th Mini Festival down at Cromford Meadows.

 

This year saw 82 teams representing the youth of 15 clubs from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire converge on the Meadows to play rugby. Our local clubs of Bakewell, Chesterfield were joined by newcomers Sandal and festival regulars from West Bridgford, Mansfield, Leek, Sheffield, Sheffield Tigers, Ashbourne, East Retford, Marple and Southwell. Over the years the reputation of the festival has spread and we have entertained several touring teams, this year Harrogate and West Park Leeds joined the action.

 

The organiser John Bance said “A grey drizzly day was brightened up with the enthusiasm of the hundreds of U7 to U12 players competing against each other. It was also great to see so many parents supporting their children".

 

After playing a total 32 hours of rugby the results were all very close with two of the age groups ending as Joint Winners.
