Matlock Rugby - End of Season Awards
A successful year came to a close with a highly entertaining
end of season day on Saturday.
Quad biking and paintballing ( for the athletic ) was
followed by a meal and awards ( attended by good numbers ) at The Miners
Standard, Winster ,who have been our main shirt sponsors for the last two
seasons.
Young hooker Dan Fletcher swept the board at 1st team level -
being the unanimous choice as both Most Improved Player and Players Player.
I'm sure Pedro will understand when I say that Fletch has added extra
dimension to our line out play.
Ashley Statham was the 2nd team Players Player - fitting
recognition for someone who has made enormous strides this year and who will
certainly be a first team regular in years to come - provided he continues
to work on all aspects of his game.
For the second year running Adam Twyford was the 2nd team's
Most Improved Player - Twy was making a real mark in the first team until a
succession of injuries restricted his appearances.
Skippers Chris Mease and Matt Hughes gave sober and
comprehensive reviews of the season making particular mention of the
contribution George Edwards has made to the development of the Rugby Squad.
Thanks to George and Jon Hotchin for organising the event.
The Miners Standard have put a lot of money into the Club
over the last two seasons - please support them if you are able. Excellent
food and beers are provided at reasonable prices - please mention Matlock
Rugby Club.
The next main event is the AGM on the 11th June - do your
best to be present.
As a result of the efforts of Les Davis the Clubhouse is
booked for a number of events through the summer. Bar teams will be needed.
please let me know if you able to help. the money we make form these events
is essential to the running of the club.
Finally, the club is open on Thursday evenings during the
close season - for football, a bit of fitness, some technical bits,
maintenance and repair works and for a chat.
And finally, finally please let me know if you want to be
removed from the Rugby club email list - and let me know if you know anyone
who might like to be added.
Chris.
