The Youth Section would like to thank all involved in the funding of our new equipment.

After realising that although the club has a very successful Junior section there was very limited training equipment specifically designed
for children at Primary School and the early Secondary school years. The Under 10s from last year set about raising sponsorship to pay for
equipment. Matthew Cruttenden (the adult seen on the left of the photos) who works for Bowmer & Kirkland (B&K) responded by talking to John Kirkland about the Junior Section and their needs (when he could stop him talking about Derby County). Mr Kirkland not only responded by offering a contribution but came back with a substantial offer to pay for a scrummaging machine that would suit players from U11s to U16s. This offer has been matched pound for pound by "Sportsmatch" which is a Government sponsored organisation dedicated to encourage business sponsorship for grass-roots sport.

This funding, together with a smaller sponsorship from Slacks Haulage from Middleton by Wirksworth, allowed a package of equipment to the total value of just under £3,500 to be purchased by the club and included a large scrummage machine, a portable scrummage sledge which will allow the club to take rugby more fully into the school environment together with a substantial number of tackle shields and suits. All of which are designed to allow the teaching of rugby in the safest possible environment and ensure that Matlock Rugby Club leads the way in providing for Junior Rugby within Derbyshire.
